Rising costs of everyday essentials –from housing and property insurance, to groceries and medicine– are hitting Florida residents harder than ever these days. Our young people are putting off starting businesses and buying homes; parents are forced to work 2-3 jobs just to make rent and get clothes for their kids; and seniors are increasingly getting priced out of the communities they’ve called home for years, with no end in sight. Meanwhile, Congress does nothing but offer more empty promises and divisive rhetoric. Anna Paulina Luna is at the center of the problem as she puts her extreme party ideology before solutions that will provide economic relief for the people she’s supposed to serve.

It’s increasingly expensive to live in our area as safe, affordable housing options are harder and harder to come by these days. This crisis requires urgent action so that our housing stock meets community needs, whether residents rent or own. Florida also faces a crippling property insurance crisis as homeowners pay more than four times the national average. State efforts to address the crisis have failed to provide relief to Floridians. In Congress, I will work to rein in skyrocketing rents and interest rates, expand pathways to homeownership, push for action on property insurance, and advocate for solutions that will make our communities that much more livable.

I’ve seen what’s possible when leaders come together to take action and get results. During my time at the White House and U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, the administration successfully took on Big Pharma to cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors. This incredible accomplishment means that millions of seniors nationwide will no longer be forced to choose between insulin and groceries. It’s long past time for Congress to finish the job and cap the cost of life-saving prescriptions for everyone.

As your voice in Congress, I will work to lower costs, push to make prescriptions and housing more affordable, and take on the greedy corporations that are price gouging Pinellas families and seniors, so people have more money in their pockets.
